Color Poems

What is Brown
By: Timothy Watson

Brown is Dr. Pepper
The color of the trash receptor
The foliage of the trunks of trees
The hiding place of the birds and bees
The skin of the deer and beavers
The baskets of the basket weavers
The color of the desks in school

That’s why I think brown is cool.

What is Yellow
By: Esau Carlisle

Yellow is a mile
Then sun on a
Happy day a banana
In a tree the book
In front of me
A bird that needs
To learn how to
Fly like a normal
Bird. A bee as bright
As the sun stings
Like a lemon

What is Red
By: Mira Duke

Red is the color of a dangerous rose
The color of your cheeks when embarrassed
An apple so ripe
The color of flags
Red is the color of a dangerous rose
The color of a dress when striking a pose
A color in the fire, dancing with its orange friend
A child’s balloon
Red is the color of a dangerous rose
The color of someone’s blood as it drips down the knife

What is White
By: Tamera Lepore

White is a light
A pencil
A start at night
A blank canvas waiting to be painted
A page waiting to be read
Whist is light shining bright in the dark
A flare
A phosphorescent color
I am drawn to
White potential
The day
The night
The sea
Paper
Canvas
Ceilings
And an actual color waiting to be free

What is White
By: Cameron England

White is a fluffy
Could
Marshmallows
And snow falling
Down
The best color
You can find
And you can find
It all around
High and low
Even in the night
You will see white for
The rest of your life
White is
A calm color
If you see white
In your head you must
Not go the dreaded read

Tiger Tiger

Puppy Puppy
By: Liz Watkins

Puppy puppy in the trash,
How much longer will this last?
Digging holes in the yard
Chewing up my baseball cards

Puppy puppy in the trash,
How much longer will this last?!

What is up with you bro
Maybe I can over lap you

Before you go and lose this race

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

Stopping by the Gas Station on a Hot Evening
By: Albert Aguilar

One a very hot evening
Stop for drinks my mouth is screaming
For water and Gatorade
The sun is beaming

The store is so far away
To walk almost everyday
Is it worth it
I heard my friend say

Stopping by the Mall on a Hot Evening
By: Angel Abney

Where I go
I don’t really know
But I am happy
You can say so

Boy is it hot
I wish it were not
I’m coming your way
But I’m still in the parking lot

Stopping by a Small Labeled Sign on a Starry Night
By: Tamera Lepore

Whose sign this is, I think I know
Their headquarters are in DC though;
They will not know I’ve stopped here
To read the land with Aster M Toe.

My little sister must think it queer
To stop without a rest stop near
Between the walking and the dark

The longest starry night of the year

This is Just to Say

This is Just to Say
By: Shameek Soto

I have punched
The dog
While stretching

I didn’t know
Until the dog
Bit me

Then I hit him
On purpose

Please forgive me
Your dog’s teeth
Are sharp

This is Just to Say
By: Kat Witte

I have drunk
The last
Cherry Pepsi
In the fridge

I was so
Thirsty,
My mouth
So dry

Forgive me
I was diying
Of thirst and
Craving the sweetness

This is Just to Say
By: Casey Stophel

I have played with
The tigers
That were
At the zoo

And I fed them
Without
Your
Permission

Forgive me
It was wrong
But really worth
Losing two fingers and toes

This is Just to Say
By: Tamera Lepore

I have stolen
All of the books
Lying on
The floor

And which
You might have
Read
Someday

Forgive me
They are books
And are
In my library now

This is Just to Say
By: Elijah Weatherspoon

I have eaten
All the chips
In the
Bag

And which
You were probably
Saving
For lunch

Forgive me
I didn’t mean it
So salty
And delicious

This is Just to Say
By: Angel Abney

I have eaten
All of the
Chocolate chip
Mint ice cream

And which
I’m sure
You were saving
For after dinner

Forgive me
But I couldn’t resist
So yummy
And so in my tummy

This is Just to Say
By: Albert Aguilar

I have taken
Your car that
Was in my
Garage

And you’ll probably
Get it back soon
So I don’t
Pay for gas

Forgive me
Your car was
So fast and so

Nice – I needed to drive it

This is Just to Say
By: Rocket Smith

They call me Rocket for
A reason
I can’t be stopped

Isaac Newton’s law
Doesn’t apply to me
I’m always in motion

Forgive me
But I heard the crowd
And hear the inzone

Calling

This is Just to Say
By: David Rice

I have left now
Gone but it’s my choice

I won’t get hit in the head
I do listen to him

Forgive me
I’m gone

This is Just to Say
By: Ta’aliyah Ross

I had thought
The sun always
Shined

But one day it
Started to turn
Black

Forgive me
For trying to be
A scientist in my
Own time

Red Wheelbarrow Imitation Poem

So much depends
Upon

A yellow school
Bus

Picking kids
Up

Parked in the school
Parking lot

So much depends
Upon

My favorite

Reading all

Brings me so
Much happiness

So much depends
Upon

A perfect
Flower

Glazed with
Polen
Beside the
Purple dog

So much depends
Upon

Living a life

Never being scared
Of the

So much depends
Upon

That water sitting
In the sink

Shiny and
Blue

Red Wheelbarrow Imitation Poem
By: Tommy Smario

So much depends
Upon

My grades,
Whether or not they’re A’s

Written in ink
On paper

Beside my desk
There is my test

Haiku and Tanka

Haiku and Tanka were used during the Japanese internment of WWII as a form of coded love letter from spouse to another.

Haiku & Tanka
By: Elizabeth Watkins

Getting soaked by rain
When it’s raining I feel wild, free
It’s better with you

Running in the field
Seeing the flowers blooming
The wind is blowing
Looking up at the blue sky
Hoping summer will not end

Haikus
By: Sam Mitchell

We laugh and we play
No matter what they say
You made my heart one

Friends are treasure
You keep them by your side
As we pass through time

Haiku & Tanka
By: Sam Armstrong

He watches me sleep
Sitting outside my window
Electrifying

Staring through the soul
Looking past the bed side guard
I see her sleeping
My motion sets off the lights
My bedside guard is staring

Haiku & Tanka
By: Miya Johnson

Leaves fall gracefully
Into a large pit of flames
They shed tears and shriek

They burn and dissipate
But the sun will shine again
Till they once regain
The bonds secured by hardships
I am stuck but I am free

Haiku & Tanka
By: Taylor Smith

Beautiful I see
The trees whisper in your car
All I see I love

You are beautiful
While the air travels to you
Why are we split up
Our love is like two cardinals
A bird’s chirp is like our love
Here the sound and believe me

Haiku & Tanka
By: Strawberry Ray

The summer is great,
Have fun in the beach water
The sun is so hot

Winter is so cold
Most people don’t like winter
The sun is so fun
It’s too cold in the winter
Why do people like winter?

Haiku & Tanka
By: Serinity Buchanan

The Unknown
I have been locked up
I should not have been locked up
I did not kill her

Do not be afraid
There is a way to get out
Jump out of the car
Don’t ever turn or look back
Sun shall wake and I’ll be there

Personification Poems

Fear is the Enemy
By: Liz Watkins

He is always in your mind
Looking for his victim
He spots one, he attacks, and then it begins
A snake crawling up your back
Or a bee stinging you
A bug flying in your ear
Or your family leaving you.
Your crawl in your bed, but he
Follows you;
You fall asleep, forget about it, then
It begins
Fear is your enemy, look out, it’s
Happening again!

Anger is a Man
By: Taylor Smith

Anger is my partner in crime
We live with each other from time to time
He is needed most of the time
I sometimes wish he would let me be
I just want to live my life
Sometimes I get blamed for his actions
Why won’t you let me be?!!!

Love is an Enemy
By: Isaiah Saunders

Bi try to fight it off
I try not to let it in
But then . . .
It grabs me by the heart
We take a fun ride in a love cart
But when I try to run away
It automatically knows
Where I go
I tried to hide under a rock
But it’s impossible to block
I scream no – it screams yes
Now it’s hurting in my chest
I think I gave in

Now I SCREAM YES
